Case Study

GolfStar Direct

When it comes to mixing a love of the driving range with eCommerce, GolfStar are the masters. But to tee themselves up for success, they realised their slow-paced platform was holding them back. That led them to Kubix. Our job was to migrate them to Shopify Plus, fix those aggravating slow load times, configure an effective back-end management system, and ensure their new Shopify store was a real hole in one!

GolfStar began its journey as a competition website called GolfStar Competitions, founded by professional golfer Ted Maher. The site was initially focused on running golf equipment contests; however, with the large demand for high-quality equipment, they soon noticed an opportunity to open an eCommerce store to stock the biggest names in the game, such as TaylorMade, Titleist, and Callaway. And thus, GolfStar Direct was born.

GolfStar’s primary pain point was the optimisation of their site. Customers struggled with sluggish checkout speeds, and gift cards won through their competition site took too long to appear on the Direct site. It was clear that their legacy platform, WooCommerce, had taken them as far as it could, and a migration to Shopify Plus would be the game-changer they needed.

We masterfully migrated GolfStar onto Shopify Plus, where they gained access to exclusive integrations such as the Checkout Blocks app, helping us create organised shipping methods to provide a swift, customer-friendly checkout experience.

GolfStar had a specific launch date in mind. To coincide with the boom in trade around the Masters Tournament, we set out with the target to set the site live in April. Balancing our expertise with a swift and agile approach from the project team, we were able to aim straight for the fairway.

The project with GolfStar was a little more complex due to the existence of the second site, GolfStar Competitions. The competition site would remain on WooCommerce, while the Direct site was moved over to Shopify. Despite this, it was imperative that these sites worked in tandem so GolfStar could continue to pull discount codes and vouchers from the competition site to be used on Direct.

Ensuring that their back-end operations were synced with Shopify was key to the success of the project. It was our job to create a strong alignment with their ERP, Linnworks, which would be required to create products within their system and feed them through to Shopify. Streamlining this approach made these operations a lot more efficient, with Linnworks now acting as a centralised and smooth-running back-end system for both GolfStar websites.

GolfStar didn’t need a design overhaul, as the site needed to remain cohesive with the competitions site. We helped by bringing a refreshed menu design, updated product and collection pages, and space for marketing materials and brand imagery.

A new and enhanced tech stack added to the beauty of the website, as Kubix helped onboard GolfStar onto a range of integrations for their new Shopify Plus platform, incorporating a loyalty programme on-site with Smile.io.

We also introduced them to a number of our technology partners, such as Rebuy, bringing AI-powered upselling and cross-selling across the site to support their brand-led promotional activity. OrderlyEmails was also added to customise their transactional emails and further improve the customer journey. GolfStar’s drive to reach their growth initiatives continues with ongoing support from Kubix in the form of retained marketing services.

This migration to Shopify has taken GolfStar’s site optimisation out of the rough and onto the green.
